Multi-Modal Treatment Strategies for Migraine Relief
Multi-Modal Treatment Strategies for Migraine Relief
Provider Name: Industrial Athletic Trainers' Society
Activity Type: Single Occurrence Activity
Description: Migraine is a highly prevalent and disabling neurologic disorder for which no single treatment reliably achieves lasting relief. This session reviews the current evidence behind pharmacologic, manual therapy, complementary/integrative, neuromodulation, and behavioral approaches to migraine management, with an emphasis on how clinicians can combine modalities into an individualized, team-based treatment plan. Attendees will leave with a practical framework for selecting and sequencing multimodal interventions based on patient presentation and comorbidities.
Objectives: Describe the multi-mechanistic pathophysiology of migraine, including the trigeminovascular system, central sensitization, and cutaneous allodynia. Identify pharmacologic, manual/musculoskeletal, complementary/integrative, neuromodulatory, and behavioral treatment options for migraine. Differentiate the evidence base and appropriate patient-selection criteria across available migraine treatment modalities. Apply a rational framework for managing comorbidities and modifiable risk factors in patients with migraine. Design an individualized, multimodal treatment plan for a patient presenting with migraine.
