Advanced Rehab Community Guest Speaker - Colin Strange Beyond the Tissue: Direct Current Neuro Therapy in Sports Rehabilitation
Provider Name: Lesher Performance Therapy Inc.
Activity Type: On-Demand Activity
Description: Injury is a neurological event as much as a tissue event. This session explains how protective responses like arthrogenic muscle inhibition limit function after tissue heals, compares TENS, conventional NMES, and direct current neuro therapy (DCNT), reviews four proposed DCNT mechanisms, appraises the current evidence including the published ACL reconstruction trial, and gives a clinical framework for pairing stimulation with active rehab.
Objectives: Upon completion of this presentation, participants will be able to: 1. Describe how injury creates a protective neurological response, including arthrogenic muscle inhibition 2. Compare the waveforms and physiological effects of TENS, conventional NMES, and direct current neuro therapy 3. Explain four proposed mechanisms of DCNT: disinhibition, neuroplasticity, circulation, and pain modulation 4. Appraise the evidence, separating the established electrical stimulation literature from DCNT-specific data 5. Apply a clinical reasoning framework for integrating DCNT into sports rehab, including diagnostic capability
