Heat management for human health and potential: The role of fluid temperature and form
Heat management for human health and potential: The role of fluid temperature and form
Provider Name:
Arizona State University - College of Health Solutions - Hydration Science Lab
Activity Type:
Single Occurrence Activity
Description:
Dr. Lee will first outline how a rapidly warming world is challenging human health and potential. From this context, Dr. Lee will discuss available strategies to enhance heat tolerance. The focus will then turn to hydration science. While fluid volume remains critical, emerging evidence shows that fluid temperature and form - including cold fluids and ice slurry - can provide additional thermoregulatory advantages beyond water balance alone.
Objectives:
A) Describe how rising ambient temperatures and extreme heat impact human health, physical function and potential across the lifespan. B) Explain the thermal principles of strategies to enhance heat tolerance and resilience. C) Evaluate how fluid temperature and form, including cold fluids and ice slurry, can be leveraged beyond fluid volume to optimise hydration and thermoregulation in the heat.
